Week 9 – Social Networking – Facebook

I already have a Facebook account on my home computer that I use to communiciate with friends and family.  I have added several different applications to it including the Funwall, Name acronym, Tarot cards, Daily Trivia Quiz and Scrabulous.  The last  two encourage me to log in everyday as I am currently playing with several friends.  I find it an easy page to manage and am discovering new things to do on it all the time.

It may replace the old style e-mail accounts in the future as it is easy to write directly and privately to people or you can just post general comments on your wall for your friends to see.  Some of the applications ask rather personal questions though so you have to pick and choose.  Sometimes an application will check mark everyone on your list and send to them if you don’t take the check mark off before sending.  It is rather obvious that the information they collect is being used for marketing purposes.  It is a lot of fun and can be very time consuming!

Week 7 – Photos and Images

There are a lot of different pictures out there but I don’t think I want to share any of my personal photos unless it is just between family and friends.  It is an excellent source for adding visuals to your web page etc.  When I started an account with Flickr I somehow managed to download/upload the box where you can click on a link and go straight to Flickr when what I thought I was doing was just loading a single picture.  I wonder if I will ever figure out the bugs!

Week 8 – Social Bookmarking and Tagging

I have been trying all different ways to add links to this Blog but nothing seems to work for me. Any suggestions?

Week 8 – Library Thing is a wonderful thing

It’s great! It satisfies my need for the organization of what I have read.  I’ve tried keeping lists in the past but this one has the visual aid that is such an important memory trigger.  An aging population facing gradual memory loss  will find this really useful.  So many times I’ve had people say to me  “I’ve read two out of the three books I borrowed” or ” I just bought a book I’ve already read!”  However, if you like to read and want to keep a record this is the perfect tool for all ages of the computer literate.  I’m hooked!  Looking forward to learning more about this site and its abilities.

Week 4 – The Wiki’s

I looked at this awhile ago but I think I posted  my comments on the learning 2.0 blog rather than here.  I think they can be very informative and some are quite colouful as long as people know that the information is coming from the public and that you should always check more than one site to see whether the information you are getting is reliable and consistent.  I think it could be very useful for a group of people who wish to compile and share information on the topics of their choice when they can’t get together in person.

Blog Readability test

I did this and got a rating of High School but I can’t seem to put it here in my blog.  I was able to copy it but it won’t paste properly for me so I’m likely putting it in the wrong place.  Can anyone help?

Week 5 – Sketchcast

Well that was interesting!  I have some artistic talent so I thought I’d be able to draw something that looks like something but I will need to develop my control.  This is a great outlet for the abstract artist though.  It is like drawing with markers and you can change the widths and colours.  I had a little trouble getting the knack of switching back and forth between the colours.  When you publish and play it it goes all through the process – so the spots where I was having trouble don’t show much action.  It will really improve your hand eye co-ordination if you persevere.  I’d like to put one in here but am too tired to fiddle with that right now.

Week 5 – Trading Cards

The good ol\' days!

Well I used a picture of a relative and made a trading card out of it but I saved it as an image file and can’t seem to put it in here.  I’ve tried to read the help instructions and transfer it over but I am hopeless.  I think I will try again using a picture that is already on the internet rather than my personal files.  I was able to choose a background for the card and add seven symbols to it, as well as a caption and and title.   My youngest son would have loved this when he was in public school as they had to design, make and play workable games and I would have been buying paper and ink rather than Magic game cards!

April 28-08

I tried this again and finally succeeded.
